SPECIAL BOARD MEETING

The Board of Directors is scheduling a special meeting on Wednesday September 23 at Mica Mountain High School. The meeting is to address possible changes to both our parks within our community.

The City of Tucson currently has a campaign to reduce the water usage in HOA communities that have large volumes of grass. Both our parks have approximately 10,000 square feet of grass. Our annual water budget to maintain these parks is roughly $ 700 monthly or $ 8,400 annually. Additionally we budget $ 1,000 for irrigation maintenance and $ 2,235 to overseed with Rye grass in the fall months. With the current water shortages in Arizona, it is likely that water costs for HOA’s will likely increase to double our current costs.

The City of Tucson Grant program could potentially provide up to $ 30,000 of assistance to reduce our water consumption by replacing our lawns  with cover that does not require a high volume of water. The grant does not cover the cost of purchase or installation of a synthetic lawns, however, to install some synthetic lawns in addition to other cover measures could still provide the aesthetics we are searching for with our community parks.

We are currently working with a representative from the City of Tucson to create a proposal that would provide us the assistance we need to acquire as much grant dollars that would help us accomplish our goals.
