PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES HOSTING COMMUNITY MEETINGS ON ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS CODE AMENDMENT
The Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) invites the community to join virtual meetings to learn about upcoming changes to regulations for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in Tucson and provide input.
The Arizona State Legislature recently passed HB 2720, which provides greater flexibility in the development of ADUs. This bill requires cities, including Tucson, to adopt regulations allowing ADUs on single-family home lots by January 1, 2025.
Although Tucson's Mayor and Council amended local codes to permit ADUs in December 2021, new state legislation necessitates further changes. On June 18, 2022, the City of Tucson Mayor and Council directed staff to begin amending city codes to comply with the new state legislation on municipal zoning.
We invite the community to provide feedback on the proposed modifications to Tucson's ADU standards as required by the State Legislature.
Please join one of the two public meetings hosted by PDSD:
ADU Code Amendment Daytime MeetingDate: Tuesday, July 23, 2024Time: 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.Location: Via Zoom
ADU Code Amendment Evening MeetingDate: Wednesday, July 24, 2024Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.Location: Via Zoom
The feedback from these meetings will inform a formal ADU proposal that will then be reviewed by Planning Commission and Mayor and Council later this year.
Please visit the Casitas in Tucson website to learn more about the ADU amendments to conform with Arizona state law and about ADUs in Tucson.
